How many manicures within a day does it take to get into the Guinness Book of World Records? The target was 200, but on 13th May 2010 the London College of Beauty Therapy smashed that total, filing and polishing a whopping 1897 people's nails in eight hours. I paid a much-needed visit to the London College of Beauty Therapy, received a manicure from a very enthusiastic Level 2 Beauty Therapist and soaked up the excited atmosphere.
I arrived half way through the day and the total was half of this final number, showing a consistent turnout throughout the day - including both men and women. Some had booked ahead and some were simply plucked from the street near Great Marlborough Street. Beauty Therapists worked at 108 nail stations located in salons throughout the building, filing and polishing a combined length of 200 metres of fingernails! The event was deemed a great success and raised hundreds of pounds for the Wellbeing of Women medical health charity.
