Autumn/Winter 2009-10 shows saw hair transformed into ornate up-dos and textured chignons, and designers embraced varied multi-cultural influences. There was a heavy Japanese influence, as faces and lips were painted Geisha-style.
'Popeye's Olive Oyl with a Japanese twist', were the words Toni & Guy's Cos Sakkas used to describe his structured chignons at Betty Jackson's autumn/winter 2009-10 show. On the face, he used dark dots of burgundy on the lips with and a navy stripe across upper lids. Hair was blow-dried into tight ponytails and painted with a thick coating of gel for high shine and control. Ponies were ironed flat to achieve an almost cardboard effect, before being hooped, looped and twisted into intricate up-dos.
